  • Very important to show that you understand unique character of school/location and that really want to be part- one good way is to travel to campus for open interview (Tuck appreciates applicants who visit campus and interviewing before applying, and it may increase admission chances). Another is to apply Early Action.
  • Since it’s not as popular as the other Top 5, they need to see that you didn’t apply just because of their high rankings – that you don’t treat it as a Top 5 safety school.
  • Value teamwork, especially because of their Study Group system.
  • Seems that they are looking to take more students who have a ‘global mindset’.
  • Undergoing curricular changes dubbed Tuck 2012, which includes new seminars of a few students with a faculty member, exploring a current issue in depth- may be good to mention in application.
  • School looking to increase diversity, percentage of women.
  • Advantageous to apply early.
  • Like tangible anecdotes, examples and vignettes in essays.

General Management, (Corporate Strategy)
  • Close-knit, residential community in secluded area- like sociable, friendly people, who aren’t too obsessed with their privacy. It’s hard to blend in and stay out of sight.
  • Much of course work (and social life) based around study group and teamwork generally.
  • Alumni base relatively small, but very dedicated to school (highest percentage of alumni giving of any b-school).

The school’s location is relatively remote, which helps develop a strong community feeling and close ties between students and faculty. The school therefore emphasizes teamwork, with many classes and projects relying on study groups.

The program is considered especially well-suited for those who enjoy community, living on campus, being far from a big city and outdoor activities.

The school is very popular with US employers, and in employer surveys (conducted by the Wall Street Journal), Tuck often ranked first among US MBA programs.

In terms of the admissions process, Tuck is unique in offering all applicants the opportunity to interview on campus at their own initiative, as well as offering the option to apply in a nonbinding “early action” round.
