Wharton-Lauder Program

This two-year program, which starts in May, is a joint degree program in international management, integrating an MA in International Studies from Penn’s School of Arts and Sciences with a Wharton MBA or a JD from Penn Law. The 24-month, MBA joint-degree calendar begins in early May and includes a summer of study, comprising 4 weeks on campus followed by an 8-week summer immersion program abroad prior to starting Wharton. The Lauder Institute offers advanced language study with dedicated staff in nine languages and their corresponding regional study areas, including  Hindi program (South Asia), Arabic (Middle East), Mandarin Chinese , Japanese (East Asia), Portuguese, Spanish (Latin America) – and French, German and Russian (Europe). Our Global Program reflects our most recent expansion, designed specifically for multi-lingual Lauder candidates.

The MA in International Studies is designed for students who already have advanced second-language skills and emphasizes cross-cultural training through one of nine programs or the new Global Program. The nine languages available for study are Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish. Applicants must complete a 20-minute Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) by telephone to assess language skills.

The Lauder Institute shares a joint application with the Wharton MBA program, and the application is reviewed in its entirety by both the Lauder and Wharton Admissions Committees. Accepted MBA/MA students are admitted jointly into both programs, not independently into each.

All applicants to the Lauder program are required to complete one Lauder essay:
Discuss why you are applying to the Lauder program detailing specific reasons for applying to your chosen Program of Concentration and describing how you see yourself benefiting from, and contributing to, the Lauder program overall. (Approximately 800 words.)

Lauder interviews are granted by invitation only, based upon a full review of your application. All accepted MBA/MA students are required to have a Lauder interview as well as a Wharton interview. The interview will focus on your international interests and experience, personal qualities, general fit for Lauder, and ability to start and manage the two programs beginning in early May. Applicants selected to interview will receive communication with details on how to arrange both their Lauder and Wharton interview.
