Diversity scholarships
The INSEAD Diversity Scholarships category channels applications for a number of scholarships that will be granted based on need and merit. Need-based awards will be offered to those who demonstrate and prove significant difficulty in raising sufficient finances for the INSEAD MBA Programme and may be limited in accessing loans. Priority will be given to candidates with a marked socio-economic disadvantage.
Merit-based awards will address talented individuals who will contribute to the breadth of diversity on the MBA Programme. The background, work experience and personal profiles of such bright and dynamic individuals will bring unique diversity to INSEAD. These candidates will also display their current and/or potential contribution to the region they come from.
The awards are: IAF Diversity, INSEAD Alumni Association (IAA), MBA Class Reunions, Greek Friends of INSEAD, Financial Aid, the Gabel Family and the Bischoff Family, INSEAD Diversity, Ian Potter ’93D and Family Endowed Asia, Antonio Borges Endowed, Deepak and Sunita Gupta Endowed, Sam Akiwumi Endowed, El-Wakil-Lahham, Helmut Meier Scholarship for Women from Central and Eastern Europe, Heuschmidt Scholarship for Diversity, Life Foundation, Luis Freitas de Oliveira ’93D Endowed Scholarship for an Open Europe, Special Profile Scholarships, MBA Endowed Scholarship for Mauritius, Michael Salomon ’89J Endowed Scholarship, RSG Foundation for Lebanese, Renaud Lagesse ’94J Scholarship for Southern and East Africa, Eric Sasson MBA ‘90D Scholarship, Rémy and Verena Best Endowed Scholarship and the Russian Alumni Scholarships.
For some IAF Diversity scholarships the alumni will actively encourage those receiving an award to make their own contribution to the Alumni Fund in the future.
Diversity Scholarships address two categories of candidates: meritorious candidates who demonstrate contribution to their region and candidates in need who demonstrate proven financial need.
Application requirements:
1) In approximately 300 words for all the questions that follow: (a) introduce yourself and include an account of your early years i.e. where you grew up and the primary and secondary schools you attended. How did you finance your secondary education? (b) briefly describe how you envisage contributing to the future development of your country/region after graduation and (c) Give the main reason why an INSEAD MBA is relevant to your future career development.
2) In approximately 300 words provide a concise but accurate description of your financial circumstances as well as your budget for the year at INSEAD. How do you expect to finance your studies if you do not obtain a scholarship from INSEAD? Why INSEAD should consider you for a Diversity scholarship? What amount do you consider appropriate? | Antonio Borges Endowed Scholarship | The Antonio Borges Endowed Scholarship has been established in memory of Antonio Borges who died in 2013 after a brave battle against cancer. A highly-respected dean of INSEAD (1993 – 2000), MBA programme dean (1986 – 1990), talented economics professor and widely-regarded business leader, Antonio Borges was also a true international, with deep connections to his native Portugal. A visionary, he shaped INSEAD’s history by setting up the campus in Singapore and greatly enhancing INSEAD’s research agenda.
The scholarship received its first major donation in January 2014 from a generous INSEAD alumnus who kindly offered to transfer the endowed fund that he had created at INSEAD in 2008 to the Antonio Borges Endowed Scholarship. Subsequently, the scholarship has received additional funding from Antonio’s family, friends, and colleagues as well as many INSEAD alumni. |
The Antonio Borges Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to candidates who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements and promise, and whose background, work experience and personal profile contribute to the breadth and depth of ‘diversity’ in the MBA programme. This is achieved with both monetary and mentoring support. As part of its association with the Forte Foundation INSEAD will award several fellowships a year to outstanding women admitted to the INSEAD MBA programme. Fellows will join the Forte Foundation community and enjoy lifelong leadership development opportunities provided specifically for women. INSEAD Forté Fellows will become part of Forté Ambassador Scheme. Fellow ambassadors will serve as campus champions of Forté. | Judith Connelly Delouvrier Endowed Scholarship | This endowed scholarship fund was created as a permanent tribute to Judith Connelly Delouvrier, victim of the TWA Flight 800 tragedy in 1996. A warm and generous spirit, Judith was mother of Henry and Isabelle and the beloved wife of Philippe Delouvrier (MBA ’77). Originally dedicated to American women at INSEAD this scholarship enlarged its scope in 2008 thanks to an additional donation from the Class of ’77. | Indeed Endowed Scholarship | The Indeed Endowed Scholarship aims to encourage and help those from atypical backgrounds attend the INSEAD MBA Programme.
The scholarship has been established by Indeed, the world’s leading job site, and its founders Paul Forster and Rony Kahan, both class of 1994 graduates of the School. The scholarship supports students with backgrounds that are not typical of the majority of MBA entrants, both within business, such as entrepreneurial ventures, and outside business, such as public sector, non-profit, academic, media and creative professions. The Indeed Scholarship aims to make an MBA more affordable for such individuals, reducing their debt burden and opening up broader career and entrepreneurial options after graduation. By helping to increase the number of attendees with atypical backgrounds, the Scholarship also aims to increase the professional diversity of the School and hence the richness of the academic experience for all attendees. |

| Padma and Rashmi Shah Social | The INSEAD Padma and Rashmi Shah Social Enterprise Scholarship aims to support candidates who have substantial experience from the social enterprise sector and a genuine commitment to the pursuit of a career in social enterprise post-MBA. A social enterprise is defined as an organization that applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in human and environmental well-being and may include maximizing social impact alongside profits for external shareholders. | Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (Sylff) | This scholarship is an endowed gift to INSEAD from the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (Sylff). The Fund was established in 1987 by the Nippon Foundation. The Sylff programme demonstrates its commitment to education through awarding fellowships to promising graduate students in the social sciences and humanities. 69 universities and consortia worldwide, including INSEAD, have received endowments of US $1 million. The Sylff programme is now building a worldwide community of young leaders made up of the Sylff Fellows at all funded institutions. By receiving this award at INSEAD, candidates automatically join the Sylff worldwide network and gain opportunity to apply for additional Sylff support programs. As a philanthropist and the founding chairman of the Nippon Foundation, Ryoichi Sasakawa articulated a philosophy that remains the driving force of the programme today. “The world is one family”, he maintained, “and all mankind are brothers and sisters”. The Sylff programme is based on these principles. By helping to create a new generation of leaders, it seeks to overcome the divisions of nationality, religion, ethnic background and politics. | Reaching Out LGBT Fellowship | INSEAD is all about diversity. The global INSEAD community is a unique blend of all nationalities, cultures, backgrounds, languages, religions and genders. Our goal is to provide opportunities for all, including those from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities. We are proud to offer an INSEAD Reaching Out LGBT MBA Fellowship to encourage and help LGBT students to attend the INSEAD MBA programme. This is a competitive fellowship. In addition to a strong academic and professional background, applicants must demonstrate their capacity to be a leader for the LBGT community at INSEAD. We expect the fellowship holder to contribute actively to campus life and especially to lead initiatives that benefit the LGBT community. We are looking for leaders who will help INSEAD welcome and celebrate its LGBT community. Candidates should demonstrate exemplary leadership qualities in one or more of the following ways: academic leadership, team leadership, community leadership. Only candidates who have been admitted to the MBA Programme or invited to the admission interviews will be considered.
