As we get closer to Round 2 deadlines, we know many of you start worrying about the parts of your profile that feel “not perfect.”
· Maybe it’s your low GPA.
· Maybe you changed jobs quickly.
· Maybe you have a gap in your resume.
Now, here is the truth: every applicant has some weakness. What matters is how you explain it.
Here are a few things the AdComs actually look for:
1. Honesty, not excuses
If you had a low grade or a break in your career, state it clearly. Don’t over-explain or blame others. A short, direct note works best.
2. Growth and maturity
Adcoms want to see what you learned from that period. Show how you improved after the setback- better grades later, stronger work results, or a clear shift in discipline.

3. A stable story
If you change jobs often, focus on the skills you gained and how each move connects to the goals you want to pursue post-MBA.

4. Evidence of progress
Numbers help. A strong GMAT/GRE score, professional certifications, major work achievements, promotions- anything that shows you are capable and consistent today.

Weaknesses only hurt you when you try to hide them. When explained the right way, they show self-awareness and responsibility, qualities that AdComs at top B-schools really value.
