LBS & INSEAD vs. US MBA Programs: A Comprehensive Comparison
LBS and INSEAD, prominent European business schools, differ from US MBA programs primarily in program length, international student composition, and regional focus. While US MBA programs are typically 2 years long with 60-70% domestic students, European and UK universities like LBS and INSEAD offer shorter 1-1.5 year programs with up to 90% international students, leading to a quicker return on investment. For years ARINGO’s clients have kept the US M7 schools (Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Kellogg, Booth, Columbia and MIT) at the top of their school list; however, recently, we’ve seen an uptick in clients moving the London Business School (LBS) and INSEAD up higher on this list. It seems the Ivy’s may need to move over as this UK/EU duo become more highly sought after. US universities are famous in all subject matters, not just business, boasting campus enrollment numbers in the tens of thousands. Harvard alone offers over 3700 courses. On the other hand, European and UK universities teach mainly Business studies, and nothing else. INSEAD, for example, ranked no. 1 in FT Global MBA Ranking 2021, is a 10-month program with campuses in Fontainebleau and Singapore, known for its global brand and diverse class of 80+ nationalities. London Business School (LBS), ranked 2nd, offers flexible 15, 18, or 21-month programs based in London, with a diverse cohort from 66+ countries. Both European programs offer strong post-MBA career prospects in consulting, finance, and technology, with high average salaries. While intense, their shorter duration and international focus make them attractive for candidates with strong career trajectories or more work experience, especially for those looking to work outside the US.
